“What We Bought This Month” is a recurring series showing what three real, hard-working mamanistas spent their money on this month.
I had a rather expensive start to the year, so I made an effort this month to shop my closet more and focus on helping other people spend their money (you’re welcome, Aimee). But I probably need a 12-step program. In my excitement to look and feel ready for spring, I purchased about $130 worth of new beauty products – including Makeup Revolution’s NEW Rose Gold Lights highlighter and the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette I’ve been coveting – and a few colorful additions to my closet. In my defense, one dress was purchased at a consignment shop and most everything else was a steal on Amazon.
I shopped for pieces that would complement what I already own and help make my classic looks a little trendier. For example, this yellow blazer is one of the hottest colors of the season and will be easy to layer over a navy striped dress, white jeans or one of my favorite black-and-white printed skirts. And the floral blazer is definitely a work wear essential that will take my basic looks up a notch this season.
Number of Items Purchased: 20 (4 dresses, 2 belts, 2 blazers, 1 top, 1 pair of shoes, face wash, CC cream, eye shadow, 2 highlighters, 2 tinted moisturizers, 2 makeup brushes)
Total Amount Spent: $334
Favorite Item Purchased: I’m really excited about everything I’ve bought. My last purchase – the “Cate” dress from The Find Auctions – was completely spontaneous, and I will be wearing this A LOT.
After spending in the $300 range in February, I vowed to try to spend less than that this month so I hunted online for coupons and sales and dug through my purse for gift cards to help! With an upcoming family cruise on the list for spring break, sports season in full swing and a work conference in Florida, weekend tees and beach-ready clothes and accessories were on my mind in March. Prints also reigned supreme with an amazing pair of navy floral pixie pants from Old Navy on sale for less than $15, some great Target floral pajama pants, and a pair of Margaret M pull on shorts.
That’s right. The maker of our favorite, pull-on, looks-good-on-everybody pants now makes shorts! These shorts fit like a dream and boast the same comfort and booty shaping qualities as their slimming pants counterpart. Plus, they are a great length: long enough to be mom appropriate but short enough that you still feel like the younger, fashionable version of your pre-mom self. Click as fast as you can over to their site right now and order both styles, and we’ll keep praying to the fashion gods that more patterns are released for summer!
Number of Items Purchased: 13 (4 shirts, 2 totes, 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of shorts, 2 jumpsuits, 1 pair of earrings, and 1 pair of pajamas)
Total Spent: $223.45 (Retail price before coupons, sales, 1 gift card and general bargain hunting = $558.12! The power of bargain shopping!)
Favorite Item Purchased: The Stella & Dot Geo Cork Tote. I got it half price during a trunk show and it screams summer and fun to me! I instantly pictured myself carrying it to the pool on the cruise with my family for spring break and at the pool this summer. That’s enough to make me smile!
I had no chill and no strategy when it came to my shopping this month. It’s been a bit of an emotional time in my life for various reasons, and if I take a step back, I’m probably stress-shopping the same way some people stress-eat. (And in all honesty, I’m doing some of that too.) Since I was shopping away my feelings, I absolutely went over my normal self-imposed budget of $150. And since I had no strategy to my spending, I ending up sending back a lot of things that I didn’t like. I also bought three – yes, THREE – pairs of shoes within the first seven days of the month. And for the love of my bank account, someone please stop allowing me to buy jewelry!
Number of Items Purchased: Too many to count or to pull pictures for
Total Amount Spent: Listen, I KNOW I went over my self-imposed budget but like a lot, okay?!
Favorite Item Purchased: A navy blue Hilarey Radley Swing dress from Costco for $12.99 and a pair of fringed booties from a local boutique, both of which aren’t pictured
