What We Bought in July

- Let's Spend Some Money

“What We Bought This Month” is a recurring series showing what three real, hard-working mamanistas spent their money on this month.

Aimee’s Purchases

I’m about to type something that will feel like a lie, but I promise you, it is not. Ready? Here we go: I purchased one item of clothing in July. One. Item. Of. CLOTHING! But never fear, I still spent a pretty penny, just decided to funnel those funds into skincare purchases. Why? Because I’m on a constant mission to not look so damn tired. On top of that, through a combination of stress, poor diet and god knows what else, my skin has decided to go crazy and break out. And this mama’s breakouts are like a small child that gets nurtured into a big, red, mad adult that refuses to be kicked out from my basement, i.e. my chin. Since I’ trying to find the positive in every situation, I’ll give you this: I found an amazing brand of makeup called Dermablend that can cover up everything and anything, including this angry little red person.

Number of Items Purchased: 5

Total Amount Spent: $150

Favorite Item Purchased: Hands down, the Dermablend Color Corrector. It’s been life-changing.

Liz’s Purchases

Between my previous purchases and Le Tote, I happily shopped my closet all month long. Almost. I decided to treat myself to a new dress, because I can’t resist a dress that is versatile and comfortable and has pockets. That purchase reminded me that I needed to find a dress for the wedding we are going to in October, so I decided it was time to commit to the dress I’ve had on my Amazon wish list for months. And then Aimee suggested (more like insisted) that I keep one of the items from my Le Tote, so I figured I might as well buy all three pieces and get a free month, because I’m saving money.

Number of Items Purchased: 5

Total Amount Spent: $117 (net spend after my free month of Le Tote!)

Favorite Item Purchased: I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really excited about this Kate Middleton-level-risque wedding guest dress.

Sarah’s Purchases

This month, I gave myself a good talking to when it comes to all things budget and set a goal to spend under $100 on beauty and clothing items. With Back to School ahead for the kids and both needing a ton of new clothes, my budget needs to be focused there! I have to admit that I thought I might be setting myself up for failure but I’m happy to report that I came in at $70.98 thanks to summer sales and brand ambassador work with Athleta this month!

Number of Items Purchased:  6

Total Amount Spent: $70.98

Favorite Item Purchased: Without a doubt, my favorite purchase is the Athleta striped midi dress in black and white. I can already think of at least half-dozen ways to wear it now and into fall. Look for a Striped Midi Dress 3 Ways post soon!
