Recently, I got to go on a work trip to a very fabulous location. So I did what any working mom would do: asked a grandma to come watch the kids and bought a ticket for my husband to meet me out there. We have not had a kids-free trip in YEARS (literally seven!), plus it was right around both of our birthdays, so we were ready to have some fun. Of course, that means new clothes! And since there’s no time to go to the mall (do people still do that?!) or browse online and return to four different places, I scheduled a Fix. In my note, I asked my stylist to make me “look hot AF” and requested a full outfit to be sent. I also completely lifted the restrictions off my price point.
What My Stitch Fix Stylist Sent
Lila Ryan Liza Skinny Jeans
Calling these “skinny jeans” is a bit of an understatement. They were more like “Holy shit, I can’t pull these up my past my thighs” jeans. At $98, it wasn’t too disappointing that they didn’t fit, especially since they were just a pair of jeans – no cool distressing, detail or anything to warrant the price tag. I have a vague recollection of these exact pants getting sent to me a few Fixes ago, and I didn’t buy them then, so not sure why my Stylist thought I would now.
Verdict: Returned, #sorrynotsorry
Napean Sea RD Bauny Ruffle Detail Off-The-Shoulder Detail Top
Well, heeeyyyyy there! This shirt checked a few of my favorite boxes: good price, versatile, classic with some interesting twists. While I hope the cold shoulder trends dies a fiery death (see what I did there?) there was something about this top that was really sexy without trying too hard. Unfortunately, the fit was way too big. There were gaping holes in the underarm and the top would just fall off with no warning, which wasn’t the fashion statement I was going for.
Verdict: Returned, still occasionally wished I had exchanged for a smaller size but that’s too much wooooork
Vince Camuto Robeka Strappy Velvet Heel
Okay, Stitch Fix “stylist”, we’ve been together for three years now – have you learned NOTHING about me?! I’m 5’11” which is clearly indicated on my style profile and noted on every return I make because the dress is too damn short. What makes you think I’m going to keep a pair of four inch heels?! Yes, the block heel looks super comfy. Yes, velvet is in this season. Yes, I love the burgundy color. But I also spent my entire childhood and a good portion of my adulthood with people remarking about how tall I am, and there’s a little bit of emotional baggage there. Plus, these $130 shoes look exactly like a pair from Target.
Verdict: Returned with an eye roll
Bay to Baubles Emily Filigree Leaf Pendant
This was a pretty easy decision. Minus the styling fee, it would be $8. In my jewelry box it goes.
Collective Concept Libby Knit Dress
This dress had soooo much promise coming out of the box. A beautiful cobalt blue color with a heavy ponte fabric paired with some interesting detail in the front. The back had an exposed gold zipper (!) along with a subtle but sexy cutout. However, when I put it on, it was skin tight and made me feel like Jessica Rabbit.
The Low Down on My Stitch Fix
My Stylist did as requested, which was send a few complete outfits that would work on a fun getaway with the hubs. However, I didn’t feel like my profile or body type was considered when making these selections, which was a little disappointing after being a client for three years. I ended up keeping a pretty gold necklace that I didn’t need. I’m finally moving over to TrendSend and will report back.
