You’ve done your spring closet clean-out and added some fresh, new pieces for the spring season. Now it’s time to do the same for your makeup bag! Spring is the perfect time to freshen your face with lighter formulas and brighter colors.
Here are our top picks to freshen your face for spring
In colder months, I prefer a heavier foundation. But as the temperatures rise, so do the odds of that foundation streaking down my face in the Georgia heat. Because I don’t want to end up looking like one of those scary sad clown statues, I like changing it up in the spring to a tinted moisturizer, preferably with an SPF built in. Tinted moisturizer is lighter while still providing good coverage. You can layer on a pressed or loose powder if you feel you need a little more coverage. If you just can’t stand the thought of giving up your favorite foundation, then trying mixing equal parts of it with a moisturizer for the same affect. Or, you can buy one of the many affordable drug store options.
A Bright Lip Gloss or Stain
Put away the mauves, nudes and taupes. Bright spring days need a bright lip. One of my favorite things about a bright lip is it makes you look instantly pulled together, and you can leave the rest of your face pretty neutral. Also, if you’re running late, a quick swipe of a pop of color can make it look like “you woke up like this #flawless” Look for bright shades of berries, pinks and even reds.
A good highlighter goes a long way to adding a fresh-faced glow, and the good news is it won’t break the bank! However, it can be hard to find a highlighter that actually highlights without containing any glitter or sparkles. Makeup Revolution’s Radiant Lights is a celebrity favorite, and they just launched a new rose gold color that looks like a highlighting blush. I have been a long time fan of Benefit’s Watts Up, which is a cream highlighter that makes you look like an Instagram filter and not a sparkle fairy from Nick Jr.

An Easy Hairstyle That’s Not a Ponytail
I will admit that I am fully guilty of this. I have two hair styles: down or pulled back in a pony tail. Ponytails are functional, but not the most fashionable. Find a five-minute hair style that’s not a ponytail or a messy bun and rock it when the weather’s hot. Sarah’s a master at the chic chignon. A Cute New Make Up Bag
Be honest, when’s the last time you bought yourself a cute new makeup bag? I mean one you actually picked out for yourself and it wasn’t given to you with as a free gift when you re-stocked your favorite foundation. I realized it had been YEARS since I’ve actually picked one out that I liked (because let’s be honest – make up bags are the new AOL CD’s. Everybody gives them away.) Then I found this beauty at my favorite local boutique and just knew I had to have it! It fits many goodies and conveys just the right message. You can pick up your own at Blue Q for the low price of $6.99.
