Like most moms, I got 99 bags but not the one damn thing that I need in it. It takes two trips to load or unload the car each day, and I somehow leave behind my hot cup of coffee or gym bag (which may or may not have been an accident). Because life is crazy, there are a few beauty products that I always make sure I have in one of my bags so I can at least look pulled together, even if I’m not feeling that way on the inside.
A good concealer is like a Tide pen: able to remove all the dark spots and blemishes. I recently fell hard-core for Onomie’s Bright Concealing Elixir, a concealer that can cover up just about anything, including dark under eye circles, redness and acne. A little goes a long way and can make you look like you haven’t been up all night with a teething toddler.
Some days, a full face of makeup just isn’t in the cards. Whether it’s an unexpected early morning trip to the pediatrician or a nightmare morning getting the kids out the door, just slap some tinted moisturizer on your face as you brush your teeth. Then, when you are safely stopped, whip out your mascara to help make your eyes pop a little. My personal favorite is this L’oreal Voluminous, which can make any eyelashes look long, full and awake.
Clinique Chubby Stick
Easily give your cheeks or lips color when you’re on the go with one of Clinique’s convenient Chubby Sticks. This is like the mom of my makeup bag: a hard-working, multi-tasking miracle that doesn’t get the credit it deserves. Bonus! Full-size Chubby Sticks are often included in the promotional “gift with purchase” Clinique offers seasonally.
We’ve all had one of those days when you have to run several errands, loading and unloading an unruly toddler into her carseat in 100-degree weather at each stop. I always keep a perfume sample or two in my purse for those kinds of days. If you subscribe to Birchbox, you likely have millions of samples by now. Or, you can purchase this sampler of travel-size perfume from Sephora.
Whether you have a stray hair or experiencing a Macgyver moment, trust me when I tell you that you’ll kick yourself for not packing a pair of tweezers.
Every mom needs band-aids on her at all times, because kids. Or because you decided to break in a new pair of shoes at a conference. I prefer the fun, colorful bandages for me and the littles. Honestly, does anyone’s skin tone match the plain ones?!
Honest Beauty Hydrating Face Mist
This is a new addition to my must-haves, and I’m obsessed. In May, I received a sample of this face mist with the arrival of my diaper bundle (thanks, Honest!). Now, I look forward to a refreshing mid-afternoon spritz. It’s also great to use after working out, being in the sun or when you’ve had too much wine the night before.
Keep yourself organized by placing these items in a small cosmetic bag that can easily be moved from purse to diaper bag to date night clutch. I love this one that’s only $8 at Target!
