Editor’s Note: This is NOT a paid post. I used my own, hard-earned money to purchase a subscription to Play! by Sephora.
There’s nothing quite like coming home from work on a Friday to a box of MAKEUP!! (Say it in an Oprah voice please!) This is my second Play! by Sephora box, and while the first one was okay but not great, I’m kinda in love with the August one.
This month’s theme for the Play! by Sephora August box is “Makeup Geek.” I’m still not quite sure what to do with that drawstring bag, but it’s what’s inside that’s more important, right?

Close up of the products in this month’s box:
(from left to right):
I love my Beauty Blender and the mini is like it’s cute little sister. It’s about the size of a dime, and perfect for getting in small areas like under the eyes or covering up acne. This also served as a good reminder that it’s time to replace my full-sized Beauty Blender. (And accept no substitutions – trust me, I’ve tried and always come back to the original!)
This arrived just in time as I’m about down to the dregs of my beloved Onomie concealer. The formula is smooth and creamy, and the lipstick shaped applicator glides under my eyes perfectly on my never-ending quest to look more awake then I actually feel. I plan on buying a full-sized one and keeping this sample in my purse.
Clinique Dual-Ended High Impact Mascara & Primer Duo
I love any product that’s a combo, and this baby has a primer on one end and mascara on the other!
I was a little worried about using a “volume mist” on my already super thick hair. Seriously, I have broken many a hair elastic with this mane. But I gave it a go and was pleasantly surprised at the results, which smoothed and tamed versus making me look like a runner-up at a beauty pageant.
There’s quite a few fancy words in the product title, and the product description is just as daunting. Even after reading both, I still have no idea what it’s supposed to do. I put it on after washing my face and have nothing out of the ordinary to report. And at $98 a bottle, I’m okay not loving this. (Plus, I can’t get past the word “Krocus” which was a key ingredient on an episode of Sophia the First)
I’m pretty perfume agnostic and have never really bought, or worn, perfume on the regular. So samples are a fun way to try a bunch of different scents. That being said, this was not one of my favorites – my nose did not appreciate the “scent of sun-drenched jasmine flower and peach nectar with a sensual touch of rose.”
Final Thoughts on the Play! by Sephora August Box
If you love makeup but are sick of the same old, it’s time to give Play! by Sephora a try. While I still don’t know what the hell to do with the white bag, this month’s selections were a home run for me with plans to purchase two of the five items in the bag, and having fun using all of the samples. And bonus points for NOT including any black eyeliner!
