I often struggle with an internal conflict between who I want to be and who I am. For example, I have always wanted to be cool. You know, the type of girl who can carelessly abandon responsibility and live spontaneously; who doesn’t care about what anyone thinks; and who can wear leather pants or a crop top without feeling like it was a costume. Instead, I am uptight – almost to a fault – and have failed every attempt to be spontaneous and cool, much to my humiliation since I care tremendously about how others view me. But I have learned to confidently wear leather pants and to disregard any mom who thinks I’m garbage for feeding my child goldfish over bunnies. It’s progress.
Every year during Coachella, this identity crisis resurfaces. While I have never been the type of girl who loved music festivals (they’re a little too dirty, and I’m terrified of porta-potties), I also never want to miss out on a star-studded event that is known as much for its fashion as it is for the music. And so I used a little festival style inspiration for my morning of egg hunts and paired a loose-fitting, off-the-shoulder blouse with pink jeans and my new favorite gray sneaks.
Here’s how you can re-create the look.
Jeans: These are about three seasons old from Loft. Similar style at Forever 21.
