Every once in awhile, the stars align and we get to go on VACATION! But we all know a vacation is no vacation for mom. Just getting ready for it is filled with stress, packing lists as long as a CVS receipt and more stress. (Total first world problems, I know!) For our upcoming week long trip to the beach, I decided to try and take one thing off of my ginormous to-do list: packing for myself. I sent an SOS to my Stitch Fix stylist and asked them to style me for my upcoming Florida beach vacation. Let’s see how they did.
Daniel Rainn Quin Keyhole Crochet Top
I loved the cut and the embroidered detail on this top. The same embroidery on the front is also continued down the back, which is longer then the front. I have always loved a good white top with some interesting detail, but something about this was just….off. First, the fabric was a polyester/rayon that was already wrinkling and not beach appropriate. Second, it was a little see-through. I tried it with jeans and some faux Birkenstocks (still can’t pull the trigger on a real $100 pair), and then a linen blazer. I couldn’t fall in love with it, and I’m trying really hard to only keep things that I absolutely love, so back it goes.
Daniel Ryan Jaela Crochet Detail Top
I liked the color, I liked the cut, but I was very clear that I was going to Florida. FLORIDA, people. The state where the seasons are hot, scorching, one degree under scorching, and hot AF, all combined with a healthy dose of swamp-like humidity. Just looking at the long sleeves and the fabric made me sweat.
Verdict: Not for all of the Dove Clinical Strength perspirant in the world; returned
Kut from the Kloth Jansen Printed Linen Short
Okay, these are super cute, Florida-friendly and the pattern is perfect for the beach. I also loved the pull on waist band. However, I did not love them as much as my new Margaret M shorts, which are also super-cute, Florida-friendly and a cute tropical pattern. And they have the same slimming, pull-on waistband as the pants we all love.
Verdict: Returned while staring lovingly at my Margaret M shorts
Collective Concepts Perla Textured Ruffle Detailed Dress
Everything about this was a no. I do like the cheery yellow color, which adds a summery vibe to my favorite leopard print pattern. But everything else was a hard no: the length (too short); the gathered waist right under my boobs which makes them look more gigantic then they really are; the crazy price. Plus, this is more of a casual summer office dress, not a beach vacation outfit.
Verdict: Boy, bye
Loveappella Desirae Knit Maxi Dress
Okay, this Loveappella maxi dress is super cute. I love the pattern and the fabric, but by this time in my Fix, I wasn’t ready to spend $74+ on a dress that fit just okay.
The Verdict on My Vacation Stitch Fix
I would file this one under yet another, “WTF, Stitch Fix?” I was hoping for cute fringed tunic cover ups, kimonos, easy cotton dresses and really anything other then polyester/rayon items that wrinkle at the slightest touch. All items were sent back, and I’m adding “head over to Old Navy” on my pre-vacation to-do list. But hey, at least they didn’t send me Lila Ryan jeans.
