4 Tips to Rock Black Friday

Let's Spend Some Money, Mom Life

As a kid, I remember waking up early the day after Thanksgiving to shop the sales with my mom!  We’d scour Black Friday newspaper ads all week to scout out our plan for the day! The smell of designer fragrances in the department stores, the hustle and bustle of eager holiday shoppers at 6 a.m., the glow of giant mall Christmas ornaments was like Heaven! My grandpa even nicknamed me “Sarah Shopper”.

Today, in the age of online shopping and a family of five, it’s hard to rally enough energy to wake up early enough to take advantage of Black Friday sales. Nonetheless, there are great deals out there if you prepare in advance and do your research! You might even finish your holiday shopping by Cyber Monday! Now wouldn’t that be amazing?!

Here are a few Mamanista tips for saving money – and your sanity – while Black Friday shopping.

1. Make a list.

It’s like Target shopping on steroids. You can’t go in without a list, ladies. My list usually includes gifts and personal needs and wish list items, as well as my budget and stores to shop. Need ideas? Check out our holiday gift guides.

2. Do your research.

Retailers are already sharing their Black Friday sales. Check the sales with the items on your list to see where you can save the most dough. And because some sales are staggered throughout the day, you’ll do better if you map out your stops.

3. Pre-Shop Online

Many Black Friday sales are available online, too – some start before the stores even open or even the week of Black Friday! If that’s the case, go ahead and add your items to your cart, set yourself a reminder for when the sale starts, and then complete your purchase once the sale starts.

4. Dress for Success

With the large crowds, long lines and heavier than usual traffic, the last thing you want to slow you down is your outfit. We recommend layers, as you’ll be in and out of stores all day. Try pairing your favorite pair of jeans with a graphic tee, a lightweight jacket or sweatshirt and your favorite sneakers. A crossbody purse also keeps hands free while shopping. Here’s a 30-second tip for styling your tee that takes your look from casual to cool no matter what your shopping day brings!

Happy shopping, Mamanistas!
